In February I was approached by the Retail Development Manager of St Oswald's Hospice through my website to see if I might be interested in supporting their Big Book Event at their large shop and donation hub in Byker the first weekend of March. My wife's family have a deep connection with St Oswald's as her mum received support from them during her battle with bowel cancer. Ali (my wife) also ran the Great North Run in her memory back in 2023 raising money for St Oswald's. The answer was immediately, yes!

Caryan had seen me at various other events so she knew the coffee would be good and the welcome warm.

The day of the event coincided with what I am sure was the first sunny, rain free day of the year. Normally this is a good thing but as the weather had been predicted to be like this days in advance I think it was the first opportunity for people to escape into the countryside or head up the coast so footfall was less than usual for one of their specialist events.

Although not great for me financially, I took the opportunity to top-up my vitamin D levels in between serving and my daughter managed to get all of her homework completed on company time!
