Mid-November may seem to some a little early to be thinking about Christmas, let alone choosing a Christmas tree but over at Lamesley Christmas Tree Farm, it isn't!
I began my annual residency here last year on the 15th November for the first of two early access weekends, the farm then officially opened on the 29th November for trees to be chosen and, if desired, taken away. I would be there for a further two weekends.

Lamesley is the only Christmas Tree farm in the Newcastle area where you can choose your tree in the field where it stands, have it cut and be in your home all in the same day. There really is no fresher tree to be had and because of this, with some diligent watering it will last you right through until the 12th night.

This is my third year as resident barista at Lamesley which now coincides with the launch of my winter menu. Alongside my regular menu you can choose to add a little Christmas cheer with Baileys, cognac or even whisky added to your coffee or choice of drinking chocolates of which there are three to choose from, 38%, 55% or 81% cocoa. For those driving or wishing to add some cheer in a non-alcoholic way there is a choice of a Calabrian orange extract, chilli, whipped cream, mini marshmallows, segments of Terry's chocolate orange and Baileys squirty cream.

The annual visit to Lamesley has become a Christmas tradition for many, being seen as the start of Christmas for hundreds of families that now couldn't conceive of choosing their tree in any other way. Walking around the farm's many acres while sipping a seasonal beverage from yours truly, agonising over which of the thousands of trees to choose from is that perfect tree.
OK, but where do I get my Christmas tree from? Lamesley of course! I obviously don't have time to spend hours scouring the farm for my perfect tree. Instead, I put my complete trust in Alex, one of the farm's expert tree fellers with a height and circumference request and it appears next to the van for me to take home on my last day.
The business and the site have evolved a lot over the last three years. I'm already excited to see what Kurt and Slav, the owners have planned for Christmas 2026.
