In early February I received an enquiry through the website from the PR manager at Karbon Homes asking if I could attend their upcoming event in North Shields.
Karbon Homes are a housing association based here in the North East. They were planning to hold a welcome event at one of their new housing developments for their key stakeholders, and the mayor of North Tyneside to meet the new residents and take a first look inside the new homes.
What better way to break down barriers than to entice people out with a free hot drink or two and a delicious bake or two! With my limited experience of networking events there is always free tea and coffee which in all honesty I always avoid but it does help to get complete strangers at ease with talking to each other. It helps when the ice breaker is wow, this is good coffee!

As you can see from the image to the right, I was positioned at the back of one row of houses in the car park that served the houses to the front of the development too. a perfect location for such things.
It was a short morning, serving for just two hours but it had such a lovely feeling to it. The new residents, one of which had just moved in that morning all seemed so genuinely elated to be in their new properties with some having deep personal connections to North Shields, some returning after many years living elsewhere.

Also in attendance were representatives of two very active local groups, North Shields People and I love North Shields who also publish a quarterly magazine and produce the iconic at least locally, tote bag that I came away with pictured to the left. Both groups were kind enough to tag me in on their Instagram posts which are still receiving likes and followers from almost a week later.
I've been asked to attend a similar Karbon Homes initiative later in May which I'm excited about.
