Sunday 18th May saw the 42nd annual runs at Newcastle Racecourse. This is one of the main fundraising events of the year for the charity Children's Cancer North. There are three races to take part in 1km and 3 or 5 miles in distance.

This was my second year supporting this extremely popular event that brings families together to not only raise huge sums of money for the charity but also feeling the benefits of exercise and spending time together outdoors.

The Racecourse is closed for the day to allow for exclusive use by the charity and its participants.

Overnight security on the Bass Notes Coffee van

I was offered the opportunity to set up the night before which, when reliable overnight security is in offer can be a real luxury. It takes the stress out of pitch placement and levelling the van if not on hard standing . It does require some security measures though. Pictured you can see both the hitch and wheel locks securely in place to keep my insurance company happy when left overnight!

The nature of serving at events like Children's Cancer Run are inevitably, all or nothing. You spend the first hour wondering if the success of last year will be repeated to suddenly having a never ending queue that refuses to shorten. Then, three hours later it's as if a switch has been flicked and everyone leaves. It was then time for a quick bite to eat, clean as much of the van as possible and head home for a deeper clean and a restock for the next event.
