Let me start by saying I LOVE these events, they are known as food battles. I go to them as a punter myself. They are normally held at Wylam Brewery in Newcastle and celebrate some of the best restaurant and street food traders that the North East has to offer and that's saying something. Past battles include, Battle of the Burger, Slice Wars, Mexican Standoff to name a few. Holding the Indian street food battle at Durham County Cricket Ground was a new collaboration between 44 Events and Banks Homes Riverside. This was a scaled down version of the battles held at Wylam Brewery but it was, by no means, any less delicious.

I can't help but showcase some of the incredible food I had the pleasure of eating, I didn't consume all of this in one day though, I had the self control to split it over two!

The way it works is, you buy tokens, each one costs £5 and you exchange a token for a dish. They aren't full sized portions but certainly enough that two or three is probably enough. A delicious and varied meal out for £15 in this day and age is, in my opinion great value.

After the event there is a poll that you can vote in which serves to crown the winner of the food battle. The winner of this one was a winner from previous Argie Bhajis, My Delhi. Their 1970's Butter Chicken is a particular favourite of mine.

There was no cricket in action but I took the opportunity to enjoy a pre-service flat white before battle commenced and take in the beautiful grounds.
