What better way to kickstart October than with two days at the Catalyst in Newcastle caffeinating the delegates of A-Line's Professional Development Anaesthesia training.

This was a fairly late booking that came as a recommendation from my roaster, Baristocracy coffee roasters. The company approached prior to my engagement hadn't worked out so I was happy to jump in and provide the service they were looking for at a price point they were happy with. A-Line are based here in the North East so this was an excellent opportunity to forge a relationship with a corporate partner that I hope will bring about some interesting collaborations both with A-Line and the Catalyst which is an event, meeting and office space in the centre of Newcastle.

A nice collaboration

As with many of my previous corporate engagements the remit was fairly straightforward, just hot drinks but for up to 140 delegates each day! Now this is fine spread over a service period of 4 hours, which this one was but for anyone familiar with a conference timetable, the demand would not be evenly spread across 4 hours. Demand would be on arrival 8.30-9.30am then again around 11am for 45 minutes. Challenge excepted!

There had been issues with timely access to power on day 1 which meant the 11am service was in HUGE demand, around 100 people. I was extremely grateful to not have a till to worry about so I could get on with getting as many coffees dispatched as quickly as possible.

Day 2 was fortunately a more relaxed morning service due to serving the 8.30-9.30am slot. The 11am service was still busy but at least it wasn't nearly everyone.

Anaesthetists, I was warned prior to the event think of three things primarily, coffee being one of them and how true this proved to be. Add to this the novelty element for the delegates of having a full menu of barista prepared beverages on demand instead of the usual conference coffee in an airpot meant this was as rewarding an experience for me as it was busy.

It's always nice to be appreciated and this event was no exception. I hope very much to return to the Catalyst to work with more corporate partners in the future as well as continuing my association with A-Line and their delegates.
